Office Volunteers
Based in our Matthews office, our office volunteers perform a wide range
of administrative tasks that support Habitat for Humanity Matthews
mission. Duties may include, marketing, research, preparing mailings,
placing phone calls or even computer work. Office hours are
Tuesday-Friday 9-5pm. Please contact our volunteer coordinator to check
if we have any office needs.
ReStore Volunteers
Our ReStore is located at 136 E Charles Street in downtown Matthews. We
are always looking for volunteers to help. Volunteers help price
merchandise, decorate & organize the showrooms, work at the cash
register, or even help with picking up donated goods. Thrift Store hours
are Tuesday-Saturday 10-4:30. If you are interested
please contact Norman Belch, our Thrift Store Manager.
Building Committee
This committee’s focus and responsibility is to guide the development of
Habitat for Humanity Matthews construction and building endeavors. This
committee is crucial in helping to create management systems that
fulfill our unique needs as a non-profit developer that works with all
volunteers. Areas covered include safety on the job, purchase ordering,
account tracking, budgeting, scheduling, quality control, and
contracting. The committee seeks volunteers who have professional
experience in construction or other related industries. Further, they
seek out future land sites for Habitat. This committee meets monthly
during weekday evenings.
Finance Committee
This committee monitors the fiscal operation of Habitat for Humanity
Matthews. It is made up of financial analysts, accountants, bankers etc.
This committee does budgeting, auditing and reviewing the daily finances
of Habitat. The committee meets monthly during weekday evenings.
Family Outreach Committee
The Family Outreach Committee is responsible for the solicitation of new
homeowners through workshops, mailings, and the distribution of
materials throughout Mecklenburg and Union Counties. This committee
chooses homeowners from a pool of applicants. The committee works with
local residents, neighborhood associations and churches in the area to
create support for the organization and future partner families. They
request credit reports, verify employment, and apartment rent history.
Further, they act as family advocates throughout the building process,
ensuring that the family puts in their sweat equity hours and
understands what is taking place.
